Dear Cate Alumni,
Despite Cate's idyllic location, there was no escaping the recent weather front that swept the United States.Like the rest of California, we've faced days and days of rain this past month. Check out the trivia section in this newsletter to see an amazing photograph of the Mesa after just a few days of inclement weather! The rain did not faze Cate's San Francisco contingent, as we had record numbers attend the San Francisco Reception on January 21st. Alumni, parents, and friends mingled, spoke to faculty, and watched as the Cate Historical Society honored David Harbison's '72 final year as a Cate faculty member.
This past Tuesday, Cate alumni and parents in Santa Barbara joined together, hosted by Casey McCann '97, to eat pizza and call on alumni to support the Cate Fund. It was a great time! If you'd like to volunteer for an upcoming phonathon, drop me an email!
Servons,

Public Service Day Every year, Cate students and faculty drive into the community en masse to lend a hand to non-profit organizations for the day. This year, over 300 pairs of hands from Cate assisted schools, community centers, local chapters of national organizations, and other non-profits. They painted walls and barrels, worked and played with students at elementary schools, organized shelves, weeded gardens, and cooked meals. Read more. |
Reaching for the Stars
Cate recently completed a new astronomical observatory to enhance the program offerings of its science department. The new observatory houses a 12-inch, computer-controlled telescope for viewing planetary and galactic objects, as well as a specialized telescope for detailed solar observations. The observatory's first-light activity was to provide Cate's 9th grade Humanities students the opportunity to reenact Galileo's first observation of Jupiter in January of 1610. Read more. |
CPO Blood Drive
The CPO Blood Drive held in conjunction with Public Service Day was a great success. At the blood drive, 62 parents, students, and faculty were interviewed and of those 49 were eligible to give blood. That's a 29% increase from last year and a record for Cate's blood drives! Thank you so much to everyone who made the CPO Blood Drive such a success.
