B.J. Baker '94 recently joined the San Luis Obispo Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocates ("CASA"). CASA provides mentorship and some continuity for children going through foster care programs, while also providing a liaison between the foster system and juvenile system. CASA is localized by certain regions. For more information on CASA and opportunities to volunteer with your local branch, please visit the national website.
As a member of the Board, B.J. hopes to raise both awareness and funds for the program in San Luis Obispo. If you wish to make a donation, please click here.
B.J. was inspired to begin working with CASA by his deep appreciation for the opportunities available to him at Cate. As a tax attorney in San Luis Obispo, he hoped his legal skills could be put to good use to help children who do not have stability, educational resources or opportunities. He writes, "CASA was the one program I found that provided an opportunity to new voice ideas. While their focus is children in the foster care program, they are not so set in their ways with respect to the process of how to provide that voice. I am proud to be a part of an organization that is open to new partnerships to benefit these children."
